The Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Development Board led the flagship annual Mauritius roadshow in South Africa from the 21st to 30th of April 2024. The Roadshow comprised a multi-sector delegation, notably operators from the non-banking and banking financial services and real estate and property development sectors. The Roadshow aimed to foster new connections and networking opportunities with potential South African stakeholders and investors in the four major cities.
The roadshow further cements the importance of South Africa as a key market for Mauritius. And the exceptional turnout in the 4 main business forums during the roadshow is testament to the South African confidence in Mauritius as a flourishing economic hub; South Africans are increasingly viewing Mauritius as a work and live destination, and as a regional hub for business and investments.
The Business Forum in Johannesburg saw a participation of 200 attendees, and the one in Cape Town was attended by nearly 200 stakeholders, both comprising the South African investors and business community as well as individuals seeking to relocate, live, retire or acquire immovable properties in Mauritius. The Business Forum in Gqeberha, attracted more than 125 stakeholders, including investors and consultants from the manufacturing city, and the one in Durban attracted more than 100 entrepreneurs and businessmen.
Additionally, the EDB also organized a closed-door session with a pan-African bank’s SA-based clients. The event united approximately 130 HNWIs across diverse industries, emphasising a shared mission to promote sustainable growth and prosperity in the region. The EDB also organised a roundtable session in Gqeberha which was attended by 20 HNWIs who are interested in the Mauritius International Financial Centre (IFC), acquisition of property and residency in Mauritius. Through these strategic partnerships, the EDB and its partners sought to drive positive change and unlock new opportunities for innovation and growth in the South African market and beyond.
The EDB also participated at the Southern Africa Regional Forum of AVCA, where the CEO delivered an investment pitch on the Mauritius IFC. The EDB also administered a booth at the conference, which was used to showcase the offering of the Mauritian jurisdiction and was put at the disposal of the financial services operators from Mauritius for their meetings. The AVCA conference enabled the EDB to highlight the salient features of the Mauritius IFC as a credible platform of substance when it comes to fund administration and to showcase the unique attributes of the jurisdiction, particularly in terms of risk mitigation for investments in African countries. The EDB also had a booth at the Emigration Expo which took place in Johannesburg on the 27th and 28th of April 2024, in order to connect with individuals seeking to emigrate or relocate from South Africa, including retirees and professionals.
